La cinta de ciencia ficción Dune, del canadiense Dennis Villeneuve, encabeza la edición de este año de los premios Bafta de la academia del cine británico con once nominaciones, cuatro más que El poder del perro, de Jane Campion, y cinco más que Belftast, de Kenneth Branagh.
El español Pedro Almodóvar competirá en la categoría de película de habla no inglesa, con Madres Paralelas, mientras que el mexicano Guillermo del Toro ha conseguido tres nominaciones técnicas con Nightmare Alley (El callejón de las almas perdidas): mejor fotografía, mejor diseño de producción y mejor diseño de vestuario.

Por el Bafta a mejor película, la máscara dorada más codiciada de la velada que se celebrará el próximo 13 de marzo en el Royal Albert Hall de Londres, competirán Belfast, Don't Look Up, Dune, Licorice Pizza y Power of The Dog.
La nueva película de James Bond, No Time to Die, se ha tenido que conformar con cinco nominaciones, las mismas que West Side Story y Licorice Pizza, mientras que optan a cuatro premios King Richard, After Love, Booiling Point, Cyrano y Passing.
