Las medidas de control fronterizo impuestas por el gobierno de Texas para la inspección de todos los tractocamiones y autobuses que cruzan desde México llegó al Senado y fue rechazada por la Junta de Coordinación Política (Jucopo), presidida por el coordinador de Morena, Ricardo Monreal.
Monreal hizo pública la carta a través de redes sociales dirigida al gobernador de Texas, Greg Abbott; al vicegobernador, Dan Patrick; a la vicepresidenta, Kamala Harris; al presidente pro tempore del Senado estadunidense, Patrick J. Leahy; al líder demócrata en esa cámara, Charles E. Schumer; y al líder republicano en el Senado, Mitch McConell.
El Senado -como cámara legislativa encargada de analizar la política exterior y representante del pacto federal- manifestó su rechazo a esta medida, pidió restablecer las condiciones habituales de vigilancia en el comercio, y gestionar estrategias que garanticen la seguridad integral de la frontera común para evitar el tráfico de personas y sustancias ilícitas.
En este sentido, la Jucopo destacó la importancia de la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos, calificado como el territorio con más movimiento en el mundo, en el caso particular de Texas, el flujo comercial representa alrededor de 442 mil millones de dólares, en una frontera de mil 900 kilómetros y con 28 cruces internacionales.
Por lo que dicha medida, advirtieron, no sólo afectará los costos de las mercancías y las cadenas de suministros alimentarias y automotriz, sino también empleos y la calidad de vida de las personas que habitan en ambos lados de la frontera.
“Seguiremos atentos a la evolución de esta situación y externamos nuestra disposición de trabajar en propuestas de solución para el beneficio mutuo”, se detalla en la misiva.

The Political Coordination Board of the Mexican Senate strongly expresses its rejection and concern on the measures adopted unilaterally at the Mexico–Texas border.

The Political Coordination Board of the Mexican Senate rejects the border control measures being carried out in the neighboring state of Texas regarding the detention and additional inspection of all semi-trucks and buses crossing from Mexico into the United States, working on maintaining immigration control and border security to prevent illegal trafficking of migrants and drugs.
It is a reality that our countries face important challenges given the daily social and economic dynamics that occur in the area and are part of the main development drivers for both societies. Therefore, it is imperative to continue working on the construction of joint solutions to the problems we share, such as immigration and the illicit trafficking of toxic substances.
The border between Mexico and the United States is one of the busiest areas in the world, not only regarding human mobility but also because of the amount of goods and services that go through it. In this specific case, trade flow through the State of Texas represents around 442 billion dollars, and we share 1,254 miles of common border with 28 international crossings, so the measures implemented by Governor Greg Abbott are not only affecting the cost of goods and the food and automotive supply chains, but also thousands of jobs and the quality of life of the people who live on both sides of the border.
Therefore, this governing body of the Upper House strongly expresses its rejection and concern for the measures adopted by the Governor of the State of Texas and calls for the reestablishment of the usual trade monitoring conditions, as well as working on broader strategies to guarantee the comprehensive security of our common border, since the relief of only one of the affected international bridges does not represent a sufficient solution to the current problem.
As the legislative chamber in charge of analyzing foreign policy and representing the federal pact, we will remain attentive to the evolution of this situation, and we express our willingness to work on proposals for mutual benefit solutions.
